| Term | Definition |
| WICK | Woven fiber used in some hydroponic systems to draw nutrient to a plant's roots through capillary action. Part of a passive hydroponic system using a wick suspended in the nutrient solution. The nutrients pass up the wick and are absorbed by the medium and roots.

| WILT or WILTING | The loss of rigidity of non-woody plants, usually in the leaves. Wilting diminishes the plant's ability to transpire (breathe) and grow. Permanent wilting leads to plant death. |
